The Moss Tunnel, located near the Suyanggae Light Tunnel in Danyang, is famous as a great spot for photography. The road where the Moss Tunnel is found was created by paving over buried railroad tracks after the surrounding area was submerged and the tracks relocated when the Chungju Dam was completed in 1985. While not an actual enclosed tunnel, it is called a tunnel because the trees grow so thickly that they block out the sky.
Moss began growing naturally on both sides of the road long ago. During the humid and rainy months of June to August, the vibrant green moss walls create an exotic atmosphere. Though it's a narrow two-lane road, it's not a heavily trafficked area. Always check for oncoming vehicles, and avoid taking photos in any potentially dangerous positions or situations.
The Moss Tunnel has frequently been featured on variety shows, and perhaps because of this, many visitors leave graffiti on the moss to commemorate their visit. To ensure more people can share the beauty of the Moss Tunnel for years to come, graffiti and any damage to nature must be strictly avoided.
