The Uirimji History Museum is a specialized museum where you can learn about the history, structure, irrigation methods, and ecology of Uirimji Reservoir in Jecheon, an ancient reservoir.

In the mountainous region of Jecheon, the role of Uirimji Reservoir in supplying water to the high-altitude farmland was crucial for our ancestors to survive. The present-day place name “Jecheon” (meaning “stream bank”), which signifies Uirimji, indicates how profoundly the reservoir influenced the lives of the people of Jecheon.

Jecheon City established a public museum to understand and nurture our local history and culture, making Uirimji, a representative cultural heritage of the Jecheon region, its central theme. Based on this, it aims to become a comprehensive museum encompassing Jecheon's prehistoric and historical eras.

We ask for your keen interest and participation so that the Uirimji History Museum can grow into a museum that conveys our lives to future generations.

Parking Note: Vans and buses should use the large parking lot on the right side of the entrance road to Uirimji.

Located in the mountains, the Jecheon region has long depended on the water provided by Uirimji (Envy Forest Pond) for farming. In a society where agriculture was the economic center, reservoirs that stored and supplied water were crucial infrastructure determining the region's productivity.

Moreover, the scenery of Uirimji, where deep waters and pine forests harmonized, served as a scenic spot offering people a place of rest. The place name ‘Jecheon,’ derived from Uirimji, reveals how closely Uirimji has been intertwined with the lives of the people of Jecheon.
